Losing Body Fat

October 31, 2008 by mrogers · Leave a Comment

Losing body fat doesn’t have to be difficult.  Everyone knows the basics of losing body fat — eat less and move more!  When you’re trying to lose body fat, you cannot become focused on one part of your body.  You must exercise your entire body and focus on becoming healthier and stronger overall.

Many people, when losing body fat, will lament that their stomachs aren’t getting flat fast enough, or that their thighs are still too big.  They should focus on ensuring that they are working all large muscle groups, as well as improving their cardiovascular health.

As you become stronger and leaner, losing body fat from all parts of your body becomes more evident.  While some areas may seem more stubborn than others, with continued effort, you will see results!

Burn Calories at Work

October 29, 2008 by mrogers · Leave a Comment

You can burn calories at work!  Don’t think that your exercise has to happen only at the gym.  You can burn calories at work simply by adjusting a few of your current habits.

If you live close enough to work, consider walking to the office.  Walking to and from work is an easy way to build more exercise into your day. If you drive to work, park at the far end of the parking lot.  If you take a bus or train to the office, consider getting off a stop or two sooner than usual and walk the rest of the way.

While at work, climb the stairs instead of riding the elevator.   Instead of sending an email to a co-worker, get up from your desk and walk over to their desk to have a conversation.  On your lunch hour, spend half your lunch taking a walk.  Invite a co-worker along with you, and enjoy the conversation while you burn calories at work.

How do fiber calories count when you’re trying to lose weight? Your diet should be high in fiber, and studies have shown that diets high in fiber can help people lose weight!  Participants in one study that doubled their fiber intake from 12 to 24 grams daily found that they consumed 90 fewer calories per day.  Many doctors recommend at least 30 grams of fiber a day, but few people eat that much regularly.

Fiber calories count towards your daily count, but fiber helps your body rid itself of extra fat and carbohydrates. It also helps you feel fuller longer, which helps you eat less throughout the day.  Fiber calories count, but they have also been shown to aid in weight loss.  Eat up your fiber!

You Need to Count Calories Daily

October 23, 2008 by mrogers · Leave a Comment

When you are trying to lose weight, you need to count calories daily. Studies have shown that people who keep a written food journal lose more weight than those who do not keep a written record of the foods they eat. When you write down what you eat at each meal, it’s easy to count calories daily.

Counting calories daily isn’t enough, of course. If you make the effort to count your calories daily, but are consuming 4000 calories a day, you aren’t going to lose weight. However, if you make the effort to write down what you eat, you can work towards maintaining your daily caloric goal. When trying to lose weight, you should look to eating between 1400 and 1700 calories a day.

When you’re trying to lose weight, any fat loss tips will help.  By changing a few smaller things, you can see big results!  It can also be easier to make minor modifications to your routine, which can help prolong your efforts and see lasting results.  These five fat loss tips should help you get started on your weight loss journey:

  1. Eat some protein every few hours to help your metabolism increase and also increase your fat loss.  Choose lean protein — grilled chicken breast, egg whites, turkey breast.   Don’t forget to eat a small portion right before bed.
  2. Drink more water.  This is one of the best fat loss tips!  Increasing your water intake helps flush toxins and fat from your body, as well as keeping you well hydrated.
  3. Eat small, frequent meals.  Instead of the traditional 3 meals a day, eat 6 meals a day.  Spread out your calories throughout the day to avoid blood sugar crashes and hunger pangs.  You will be less likely to binge on unhealthy foods if you eat more frequently.
  4. Avoid alcohol.  Alcohol provides your body nothing but empty calories, and will not help you in your weight loss efforts.
  5. Build at least six cardio workouts into your week.  Cardio workouts help boost your metabolism.  These workouts must be consistent in order to help you see maximum fat loss.

Following these fat loss tips should help you be well on your way to a lower weight.  Good Luck!

  2. Skip the elevator in buildings.  Do you work on the 2nd or 3rd floor at work?  Is your doctor’s office on the 5th floor?  Don’t bother waiting for the elevator.  Burn calories by climbing the stairs instead!  If you don’t think you’re ready to climb 5 flights of stairs, take the elevator to the 3rd floor and climb 2 flights of stairs.  Next time you visit, climb 3 flights.  Before you know it, you’ll be climbing 5 flights easily.
  3. Eat spicy food.  Studies have shown that eating spicy food helps increase your metabolism and burn more calories.   Of course, you’ll still want to eat in moderation.
