Measuring helps losing body fat

January 19, 2009 by mrogers · Leave a Comment

It’s easy to eyeball portions and assume that the amount on your plate equals one serving, but the best way to ensure that you’re losing body fat is to measure your portions. A good kitchen scale helps you put only 4 ounces of meat on your plate, while measuring cups ensure that you have 1/2 cup of rice and a full cup of green beans.

When you are losing body fat, you won’t regret the extra time you took before each meal to carefully measure your portions. For pre-packaged foods, look at the nutritional information to see how much is included in a serving. For items made from scratch, invest in a calorie book or search the internet.

Losing body fat will improve your health and make you look slimmer. To speed up the process, take the time to measure your portions.

Fat Loss Tips at the Buffet

January 13, 2009 by mrogers · Leave a Comment

The next time you’re faced with a buffet, follow these fat loss tips to help you make healthier choices.

  • Take time to look at everything offered at the buffet before filling your plate. You’ll make better choices if you know what is available.
  • Sit in a spot that looks away from the buffet.  You’ll be less tempted to go back for seconds if you aren’t looking at the food while you’re eating.
  • Sit in a booth rather than a table. Booths are more difficult to get out of, so you’re less likely to get up and get more food.
  • Take the time to chew your food carefully. You may have heard this fat loss tip before, but studies have found that normal weight diners usually chew each bite 15 times, vs. obese diners who usually chew each bite 12 times.
  • Don’t clean your plate. When you’re full, stop eating. Don’t feel pressured to eat everything on your plate.

Follow these fat loss tips the next time you’re faced with a buffet and you will find it easier to stick to your weight loss goals!

Burn Fat Diet with Bananas

January 2, 2009 by mrogers · Leave a Comment

A popular burn fat diet at the moment is the banana diet. It’s a burn fat diet that gained popularity in Japan, and it has shown success with those that follow it. The diet is pretty simple. Eat a banana and a 16 oz glass of room temperature water for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, you can eat whatever you want, plus a snack in the afternoon. While those following the diet claim they eat anything for lunch and dinner, I would suggest making reasonable and healthy choices for those meals.

The followers of this burn fat diet have likely seen success because bananas have a resistant starch, which increases fat burn by up to 30% (according to a study in Nutrition & Metabolism.) By eating a banana in the morning, those fat burning starches work during the day.

Cut Carb Calories

December 17, 2008 by mrogers · Leave a Comment

A study done by a doctor at Temple University showed that cutting carb calories helped study participants lose weight, while not feeling hungry or deprived.  Study participants cut carb calories drastically, but ate as much meat, vegetables and butter as they wanted.

Results showed that participants ate about 1000 calories less per day than when they ate all the carb calories they wanted, but still felt satisfied. The doctor reported that by cutting carb calories, people’s appetites diminished and they were able to lose weight.

It is unknown the long-term effects of a diet low in carb calories, but it has been shown effective as a weight loss tool for obese individuals. Any new diet should be discussed with your personal physician before starting.

Post a Calorie Burn Chart

December 9, 2008 by mrogers · Leave a Comment

A calorie burn chart is a useful tool to use when losing weight.  You can make it a motivational tool as well by posting it on your refrigerator.

Choose your favorite foods (and those that make you cheat on your diet) and write them down on a piece of paper.  If you can find a picture of the food, go ahead and include that as well.  Then, write down how many calories in a single serving.  Finally, figure out how much exercise it will take to burn off those calories.

The next time you reach into the refrigerator to finish a piece of cheesecake, you will be reminded of how much farther you’ll need to run, or how many more laps you’ll need to swim in order to burn off that piece of cheesecake!
